Gilchrist is a laid-back, seaside community snuggled on the Bolivar Peninsula in Galveston County. It’s all about chilled-out beach vibes, wide-open shorelines, and classic Gulf Coast charm .
The neighborhood is pretty close-knit, mixing year-round residents with seasonal visitors looking for that quieter alternative to the busier beach towns .
The beach here features soft white sand, easy access off Highway 87, and unobstructed ocean views—great for long walks, early-morning coffee by the water, or watching the sun set.
While there are some local eateries, bars, and marinas nearby (Crystal Beach is just a short drive), Gilchrist has a low‑key, more residential feel—no crowds, no big resort scene—just simple, charming coastal living.
Named after engineer Gibb Gilchrist, the area also has a neat history tied to the old Rollover Pass fishing hotspot—though that pass is now sealed, the community’s ties to fishing and beach life remain strong.
Expect a small-town, peaceful getaway with easy beach access, lots of nature, and a friendly, laid-back neighborhood feel perfect for unplugging and enjoying the coast.

This stay was beautiful. The house was very clean and bigger than I was expecting, but the location and ocean views were our favorite part. Very accommodating for families with children with all the amenities. We really enjoyed this stay!
We loved this house! Everything you need and you cannot beat the staying right off the water. We would definitely stay here again, it was so peaceful!
This place was fantastic, everything was perfect. Thank you
